Social Responsibility
SKIING IS OUR PASSION – SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY IS OUR COMMITMENT
The Ski Association of Slovenia fosters a passion for skiing sports while acting as a responsible stakeholder within the skiing community. Through a commitment to sustainable development, we create a supportive environment for skiing sports, emphasizing nature conservation, human rights, inclusivity, and accessibility.
Our sustainability commitment obliges us to protect nature, promote a healthy lifestyle, and engage all skiing enthusiasts in a sustainable sports community.

In its socially responsible activities, the Ski Association of Slovenia follows five key principles:
- Reducing the carbon footprint,
- Raising awareness of human rights,
- Increasing inclusivity in skiing sports,
- Building a strong community,
- Responsible and transparent governance.
Sustainable Development and Social Responsibility
The Ski Association of Slovenia (SZS) is implementing sustainable measures for the future. Our efforts include:
- Improving energy efficiency,
- Reducing individual car travel and promoting shared transportation,
- Optimizing technology for technical snowmaking while minimizing natural resource consumption.
We are committed to gender equality in sports and ensuring equal opportunities for all athletes, particularly through programs like “Šolar na smuči” (Scholar on Skis), which provide access to winter sports for children regardless of their social background.

Supporting Local Organizers and Innovation
The Ski Association of Slovenia supports local event organizers in integrating sustainable solutions. Additionally, we encourage innovation in new sustainable practices for winter sports, fostering long-term development and environmental preservation.
To support this goal, we have developed a Sustainability Checklist for Organizers, a guide that helps local event organizers implement environmentally friendly practices. This initiative contributes to making skiing sports climate-neutral.
Commitment to Sustainable Management
Skiing sports take place in environments where planning and execution have a significant impact on nature and local communities. The Ski Association of Slovenia strives to ensure that all decisions are part of a broader responsible management plan that:
- Protects natural resources
- Encourages local community involvement
- Actively includes persons with disabilities
- Provides new opportunities for former athletes
- Reduces the environmental impact of events
Sustainability and social responsibility are the foundation of our operations. We believe that, together with organizers, athletes, and fans, we can create a responsible and sustainable future for winter sports.

Sustainability Checklist for Organizers
The Sustainability Checklist for Organizers offers practical solutions for key aspects of organizing ski events:
- In the area of sports and competitions, it provides recommendations for sustainable snow management, the use of renewable energy sources, and biodiversity protection.
- Event operations encourage the use of local and seasonal food, sustainable transportation, and accessibility for all participants.
- Planning and logistics include measures for waste reduction, sustainable procurement, and better resource management.
- Marketing and communication focus on raising awareness of sustainable practices, engaging diverse groups, and collaborating with companies that support sustainable values.
The future of winter sports is in our hands. Through responsible resource management, community engagement, and innovative sustainable solutions, we can preserve skiing sports for future generations.
As a member of international federations, the Ski Association of Slovenia actively follows the FIS Impact Programme and IBU Sustainability Strategy, which focus on concrete sustainability measures in skiing sports.
We are committed to sustainable development and social responsibility – but we also need the support of everyone involved in skiing sports. Together, we can ensure that skiing remains accessible, inclusive, and environmentally friendly for generations to come.
